UAVs and Drones Used By The USA – Why?

The military use of UAVs (drones) is the subject of much controversy among peaceniks. Many believe this is only the beginning. Soon, these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will think for themselves and not be controlled remotely by a drone pilot. It’s true. We are currently working on autonomous systems that can search for targets, confirm them, kill them, record the kill, fly back to base, refill, and repeat until there are no targets, enemies, terrorists, or human lives – all without putting taxpayers at risk in the form of pensions, healthcare benefits, payrolls, or other forms of government funding.

Many aren’t convinced and wonder “Why use drones if it could lead to Terminator [Hollywood Movie] scenario?” They ask why drones and UAVs are used at all. Let me try to answer this question with some facts, since drone ethics is a frequent theme at our think tank.

Fact:

1. Drone Warfare saves the lives of American Soldiers

2. Drone Warfare can be very effective.

3. The current US Drone Warfare is manned by a human.

4. The US doesn’t target civilians.

5. The enemy uses human shields to purposefully sacrifice civilians (collateral harm argument).

6. Our enemies want to use the global media to force us to end drone warfare

7. It works because our enemies don’t like drone warfare.

8. UAS and drones offer many positive transfer technology benefits to the private sector.

9. Drones enable us to cover more territory.

10. If you don’t like it, you can wear a Christian Cross and go meet terrorists. Tell them to stop terrorizing West. See how long you last with your “win hearts, minds” motif.

Peaceniks who disagree with me: I am grateful for your time and views. However, it will be difficult to point out one debating point that I haven’t covered in my 100s articles or my eBooks. Just a thought. If that isn’t enough, and if your arguments aren’t unique, then I wish you “good days” and I agree with you that we disagree. What a great country that gives us this right. Be Great, Don’t Hesitate.
